Aluminum painting in Key Biscayne

An island village with water on every side. Railings, fences and frames prepared for constant salt.

Key Biscayne is reached by the Rickenbacker Causeway and surrounded by water, so salt exposure isn't limited to the oceanfront. Railings, pool fences and window frames across the island chalk and oxidize faster than on the mainland.

The island has both oceanfront condominiums and single-family homes, and we work on both.

Process

How the finish is made

Salt is washed out of every joint before priming. Expected finish life in South Florida: 7–10 years.

  1. Inspect

We assess the existing coating and note oxidation, chalking and peeling.

  2. Clean & sand

Dirt, salt and loose paint come off. Rough areas are sanded smooth.

  3. Mask & prime

Glass, stone and surrounding surfaces are masked. A bonding primer made for metal goes on first.

  4. Finish coats

Multiple spray-applied coats build an even, uniform finish.

  5. Walkthrough

We clean up completely and review the work with you before we leave.

Questions

Aluminum painting in Key Biscayne

Why does aluminum fail faster on Key Biscayne?

Salt reaches the whole island, not just the beachfront, and gets under worn finishes.

How can I make a new finish last?

Rinse with fresh water every few months to clear salt, especially after storms.

Do you remove anything to paint it?

No. Everything is painted in place, with glass, stone and surrounding surfaces masked first.
